Incantations: A Creative Workshop at the Coffin Works

May 18 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

£3

This new event is brought to the festival by Jodie Kim, Lecturer in Creative Writing at Birkbeck, and Laura Joyce the Coffin work’s writer in residence. They are working on a project that collects together incantations that relate to histories, mourning, and memories. This workshop will draw on that research and practice to invite participants to create their own incantations and rituals. They see the function of the incantation as a means to crystallise emotion into a powerful moment of ritual.

The workshop will take the form of a short introduction from Jodie and Laura about their research on mourning, lamentation, death rituals, and magic, followed by a practical session where participants can create their own incantations. This will culminate in a ritual performance open to all interested participants where the incantations are spoken, sung, or otherwise performed.

Booking is essential as places are limited. Tickets are £3, available here.
