Our board is a hands-on group of local people who plan, organise, support and run cultural events and discussions – working together with communities, organisations and individuals to have better conversations about death and dying.

Founded in 2015 and now a community interest company, BrumYODO holds the annual festival A Matter of Life and Death which takes place at venues and online in May.

In 2021 year we were delighted to work with Birmingham Hippodrome to bring Luke Jerram’s artwork In Memoriam to Birmingham and to support a series of related events across the city.

Our priority is to ensure our board is reflective of the diversity in Birmingham and welcome applications from all communities. Whether you’re an experienced board member or wanting to take your first step at board level we’d love to hear from you.

We are now recruiting up to three new directors to help us build on past successes and develop our work into the future. We are keen to hear from individuals with an understanding of some of the issues surrounding death and dying and with one or more of the following areas of expertise:

  • Digital and marketing skills
  • Fundraising & bid writing
  • Budgeting and financial management
  • Academic interest in death related fields
  • Audience development
  • Community engagement
  • Heritage and cultural sector experience

Time Commitment

Our board members are all volunteers and we currently meet in Birmingham or via video call every 4-8 weeks for a couple of hours, depending on the level of activity. Between meetings members support the progress of activities. Board members are initially appointed for three years with an option to continue.
